Windows Adds More Copilot+ Features via April Update

In April 2025, Microsoft pushed a major non-security update to Windows that expanded the capabilities of Copilot+ PCs. The release included new AI features such as enhanced Recall, upgraded Studio Effects, and creative tools integrated into Paint Cocreator. Microsoft used Controlled Feature Release (CFR) technology to gradually roll these features out to users, starting with eligible Copilot+ devices powered by advanced NPUs. Privacy advocates appreciated that much of the AI processing is handled locally, keeping sensitive data on-device instead of in the cloud. Enterprise admins also gained stronger policy controls to manage Copilot+ across corporate environments. The new features were designed to make Windows an “AI-first operating system,” where everyday tasks are automated and intelligently streamlined. Users reported smoother performance when using multitasking features such as Snap Layouts and virtual desktops. Microsoft also highlighted improvements in accessibility, giving disabled users more natural interaction with their PCs. While not every Copilot+ function is universally available yet, the April update solidified Microsoft’s commitment to building AI into the heart of Windows. Analysts believe this strategy will define the next decade of PC software.
